EDR’s Trey Cash Named NCEDA’s 2025 Emerging Leader of the Year

The North Carolina Global TransPark Economic Development Region is proud to announce that Trey Cash, Economic Development Director for Greene and Lenoir Counties, has been selected as the 2025 Emerging Leader of the Year by the North Carolina Economic Development Association.

This award is the highest honor a younger economic developer can receive in North Carolina. It is presented each year to a rising leader whose work creates a measurable impact for both their local community and the state. Trey’s selection is a milestone for Eastern North Carolina. He is the first recipient from Greene or Lenoir Counties, and the first from any county east of Interstate 95, to receive this distinction.

Trey’s accomplishments include securing more than 600 acres for future industrial development, helping establish two public-private partnerships, and advancing key efforts in site development and workforce readiness. He is a Certified North Carolina Economic Developer and currently serves on the NCEDA Board of Directors.

During his acceptance speech last night at the North Carolina Economic Development Association Awards Banquet, Trey expressed his appreciation to those who made this work possible, including the Lenoir and Greene County Boards of Commissioners, Lenoir and Greene County Managers, the EDR team and Advisory Board, and the communities he serves.

“This award is not about one person. It is about the work we do together to bring well-paying jobs to our communities so the next generation can stay, build a life, and believe in the future of this place we call home.” – Trey Cash

Please join us in celebrating this well-earned honor.
