Currently, the primary focus is importing more than 500,000 yards of fill material. With favorable weather conditions, crews can import over 8,000 yards daily, and to date, they have delivered 310,000 yards—quite a substantial amount! Stormwater infrastructure work will begin as the fill hauling continues over the coming weeks. Preliminary site activities will continue throughout the remainder of the year. Pavement is expected to be applied on-site in early 2025.  Crews are already preparing for the paving phase of the project, and concrete contractors are getting ready to bring materials and mobile manufacturing concrete plants that will be set up adjacent to the construction site. Barnhill Contracting and TA Loving Company jointly manage the project, bringing in resources from across Eastern North Carolina to get the job done. Once complete, the complex will provide Fleet Readiness Center East, a Naval Aviation maintenance and repair depot under Naval Air Systems Command space for maintenance operations on C130s and other Air Force and Navy aircraft.
