KINSTON, N.C., September 17, 2026 , The North Carolina Global TransPark Economic Development Region (NCGTPEDR) celebrates today's ribbon cutting of the U.S. Navy's Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) military aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul complex at the North Carolina Global TransPark, a milestone that strengthens both national defense and the economy of Eastern North Carolina.
The new facility will support maintenance of multiple military aircraft platforms while creating more than 400 good paying jobs and generating an estimated $140 million in annual economic impact for the region.
Governor Josh Stein joined military, state, and local leaders for the ceremony. "North Carolina aims to be the most military friendly state in the nation. That includes supporting servicemembers, veterans, their families, and our military installations. This military readiness complex will not only strengthen our military but also create hundreds of good paying jobs in eastern North Carolina."
The approximately 700,000 square foot maintenance complex is located on approximately 75 acres at the North Carolina Global TransPark and provides direct access to the TransPark's 11,500 foot runway. The facility will support depot level maintenance for the Navy C and KC 130T Hercules, Marine Corps C and KC 130J Super Hercules, and Air Force HH 60W Jolly Green II aircraft.
Fleet Readiness Center East Commanding Officer Capt. Randy J. Berti said the project represents a long term investment in military readiness. "This new hangar is more than just concrete and steel. It is a symbol of commitment that both FRC East and the state of North Carolina are making to our nation's warfighters. It gives us a powerful new capability to keep combat ready aircraft in the air, while demonstrating North Carolina's unmatched dedication to national defense."
The project is the result of a unique partnership among the State of North Carolina, the U.S. Navy, the North Carolina Global TransPark, regional governments, educational institutions, and economic development partners. It also reinforces the Global TransPark's role as one of the state's premier locations for aerospace and aviation investment.
The opening builds on recent momentum at the Global TransPark, including expanded aviation workforce training opportunities through Lenoir Community College and the continued growth of aerospace companies locating in the region.
